Cobar Arts Council new executive: Mark Ingram (president) Angela Webb, Thelma Wade (publicity officers), Julie Wilkin (treasurer), Rebecca Ingram (vice president) and Narelle Retallick (secretary) at the annual general meeting on Sunday.

The Cobar Arts Council held their annual general meeting on Sunday at the Empire Hotel with local photographer Mark Ingram elected as their new president.

Mr Ingram is joined by his wife Rebecca Ingram as vice president, Narelle Retallick as secretary, Julie Wilkin as the treasurer while outgoing president Angela Webb along with Thelma Wade will share the role of publicity officer.

In her outgoing president’s report, Ms Webb said the arts council had a “ripper of a year” in 2008 with “touring shows and local talent combining to demonstrate to the Cobar community that they were an active, healthy and thriving community organisation”.

She listed highlights of the year as visits by The Lonely Horse Band, the one man show “The Pitch” and the In the Bin film festival held at the cinema, Co Opera’s performance of La Traviata at the Services Club, Monkey Baa’s I am Jack at the Cobar Primary School, and most recently Co Opera’s The Magic Flute at Ward Oval under the stars.

She also listed the Don’t Dis my Ability photography workshops, the Miners Ghost and Outback festivals, Australia Day activities and Waste to Arts workshops as other successes for the arts council over the year.

She also praised the hard work of arts council members and acknowledged the arts council’s good working partnerships with local organisations such as Cobar Shire Council, the local mines, the Greater Western Area Health Service, the Outback Division of General Practice and numerous local businesses.
