The 2009 Dubbo and District Junior Rugby League competition kicked off at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday with the Cobar U/15 side avenging last year’s semi-final knock out loss to St Johns with a resounding 56-20 win.
After trailing 6-0 in the first five minutes, Cobar regrouped and set about playing the football they had trained for during the previous four weeks.
A scrappy 20 minutes passage of play followed as Cobar worked on their timing and positional play resulting in numerous mistakes, however once the Cobar 15s clicked they went on to a four try scoring blitz, going to the break 22-10 ahead.
A half time pep talk had the young Roosters take the game to a new level, with a relentless bombardment of move after set move resulting in six more tries, and as many conversions.
Quality service from the halves Wade Potter and Jim Delboux to the centre partnership of Dave Watson and Macauley Dawson proved deadly and they scored six out of 10 tries between them.
Well rehearsed moves from the ruck area near the try line saw Khaleb Whitehurst and Tom Sellick crash over for a try apiece, and Potter also picked up a try as well.
Cobar completely dominated St Johns and ran out worthy winners 56-20.

In the other games, the Cobar U/13s were outclassed by the St Johns visitors 54-0.
The Cobar U/11s won on a forfeit from St Johns and a muck around game was played.
An U/9s game was a non-competitive match and so no scores were kept.
The second round of competition will be played at Tom Knight Memorial Oval this Saturday.
The U/9s, U/11s and U/13s will take on Souths while the U/15s has a bye. For more details see advertisement below.—contributed
