Cobar Blues Netball B Grade Goal Attack Ellie Russell (with the ball) came up against some very tough Hillston defence in the Northern Riverina League competition game on Saturday at Ward Oval. Great shooting by Russell and team mate Nicole Snudden (Goal Shooter), helped their team to a three goals win.
The Cobar B Grade Blues netball team is sitting pretty at the top of the Northern Riverina League netball competition.
With still four competition games left to play before semis, Cobar’s B Grade side has a commanding lead on the points table and has already secured the minor premier’s title.
Sitting on 34 points after their win against Hillston on Saturday, the Cobar side is well clear of second placed Barellan on 25 points, Tullibigeal (21), Lake Cargelligo (20) and Hillston (19).
The Blues were tested in their Round 10 match against Hillston on Saturday at Ward Oval however Cobar came out on top with a narrow three goals win.
Karleen Duell, who coach Gerard Francisco said “played excellently in all three of her different positions throughout the match” picked up the Players’ Player and Coach’s awards.
Chelsea Kershaw at Wing Attack was again in fine form providing lots of options for her shooters Nicole Snudden and Ellie Russell around the circle.
Kershaw’s ability to read play and
react quickly also saw her intercept a
number of Hillston passes which she quickly returned to her shooters who worked hard all game against their towering Hillston defenders.
Defenders Marybeth Baker, Karlee Davis and Sarah Irvine tagged-teamed throughout the match to provide strong defence all game.
Brittany Fugar at centre and Simone Howard at Wing Defence both had solid games for the Blues.
Cobar has a bye in Round 11 and will meet Barellan at home next week in Round 12 of the Northern Riverina League competition.
