Roosters decimate Dubbo’s pride
Wednesday July 1, 2009
The pride and joy of Dubbo Rugby League, the PCYC Club, was well and truly decimated 34-10 last Saturday in Dubbo by the in-form U/15 Cobar Roosters.
After a team meeting two weeks ago, coach Tony Ellison laid down a whole new training regime to lift the side to be real grand final contenders, and the team’s hard work at training has paid off ten fold on game days, with some big scores over the last fortnight.
Once again the Cobar forward pack, led by Jim Delboux, worked tirelessly against the huge PCYC side boasting a number of representative players.
Tom Sellick, Brian Mudugem and Jordan Cranch made inroads each time they touched the ball; Khaleb Whitehurst made yards at the edge of the ruck area; Alec Burton made ground up the centre; Eathan Dunlevy was in everything and perfect dummy half service from Slade Neale rounded out an outstanding forward pack performance.
They put the PCYC on the back foot for most of the game which enabled the Cobar backs to run riot scoring six tries out wide to PCYC’s two.
David Watson and Macauley Dawson were once again unstoppable in the mid field and, with plays set up by Wade Potter and Cameron Dunlevy, the pair scored three tries between them. When the PCYC backs closed in on the mid field plays, Cobar simply went wide, with the wingers Saxon Turvey, Clinton Everett and Jordan Beazley touching down out wide for the remaining three tries.
Cameron Dunlevy played his best game by far this season, making a number of breaks. With smart ball distribution and rock-solid mid field defence, he was voted Man of the Match by his peers for his outstanding game. Brian Mudugem picked up the defence award for his efforts in stopping the PCYC forwards in their tracks.
