Moulin Rouge is coming to the Golfie this month with two theatre restaurant performances that will showcase Cobar’s local dancing, singing and acting talent as well as the culinary talents of local chef Craig Kelly.
Moulin Rouge’s producer/director Cindy Mitchell said she wanted to do something different, something that Cobar really hadn’t seen before.
“When I’m away I love to go to theatre restaurants and I thought it would be great to be able to have one in Cobar.
“So when I started planning the stage production of Moulin Rouge, I thought I’d also offer it as a theatre restaurant performance as well.”
The local production of Moulin Rouge will closely follow Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 movie.
“Moulin Rouge is about Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love and is set in the night club of your dreams!” Ms Mitchell said.
The story unfolds at the Moulin Rouge (Red Windmill) in the Montmartre Quarter (the Red Light District) of Paris, France which was the birthplace of the modern can-can dance.
Chef Craig, in keeping with the Moulin Rouge French theme, has created a French inspired menu for the theatre performances.
“On Craig’s menu is a selection of petite savoury puffs followed by ‘Coq an vin’
(chicken with wine sauce) served with creamy mash potato and fresh seasonal vegetables, topped with grissini sticks.
“It sounds delicious,” Cindy said.
So not only will Moulin Rouge be a feast for the eyes with its colourful costumes and energetic dance moves, it will also be a feast for the taste buds.
Tickets are now on sale for Moulin Rouge with theatre restaurant performances on Friday June 11 and Saturday June 12.
“For catering purposes, we have to have final bookings for the theatre restaurant to Craig by Tuesday June 8, so if people want to try something different, they need to get in and get their tickets now before the closing date or they all sell out!” Ms Mitchell said.
Tickets are on sale at the Golfie for both the theatre restaurant and stage performance only (June 18 and 19).
