Described as one of the town’s “quiet achievers”, KML Industries has been named Cobar’s best business for 2009.
KML took out the award for Most Outstanding Business at the 2009 Great Cobar Business Awards on Friday night at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club.
Cobar Business Association president Michael Cox said KML “always do the job they do well”.
KML also took out the Manufacturing, Trades and Construction Award, with business proprietor Michael Prince paying tribute to the entire KML team.
“The other 23 people at KML deserve this award as much as I do.
“We’re all about good service and we work on the idea that you always do the best you can,” Mr Prince said.
In all, nine businesses and two individuals across shared in the 10 categories of awards.
Cobar Quilt Shop and Stationery Essentials were unable to be split and shared the award for Best Retail Business.

Cobar Business Association president Michael Cox said the success of the awards night reflected the strength of the Cobar community.
“In hard financial times the secret is to support local businesses, because they are the ones who support your local sporting groups, community groups and fundraisers,” Mr Cox said.
Special guest, Regional Development Australia chairman John Walkom, said he was impressed every time he visited Cobar.
“This community amazes me.
“You have a great roll-up here tonight, recognising all of these quality businesses, you have a fantastic project going on with your main street—Cobar sets the bar high,” Mr Walkom said.
“You need to be so proud of your achievements.
“I was thinking today about how many great businesses were born in Cobar and have continued to move on to bigger and better things—ones like Ramien’s Timber, Brennan’s hardware, and more recently EDMS, and that’s absolutely fantastic,” Mr Walkom said.
He said all nominees in the awards should be proud of their achievements.
“These awards are what everyone in business should aspire towards.
“To go into business you have to have a competitive streak, because it’s about achieving, and you all need to be proud of your achievements,” Mr Walkom said.
Mr Walkom also paid tribute to the Cobar Business Association, urging all local
businesses to get involved with the association.
“It is these people that have made tonight happen,” Mr Walkom said.
The awards presentation also featured an update from Enterprise Facilitator Mark Workman on the efforts of Cobar Enterprise Facilitation (CEF).
