Fines and court for numerous traffic offences

Wednesday September 2, 2009

Cobar Police handed out fines and suspended a number of drivers on the spot when they detected licensing and registration offences last week.

A learner driver was issued with fines totalling $1,700 and his licence was confiscated on the spot after being found driving without a fully licensed supervising driver.

The offence was detected when police stopped two vehicles in Marshall Street at 11am on Saturday, both driven by men from South Penrith.

The learner driver was also found to be driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, while his passenger held only a provisional licence.

The driver of the second vehicle was found to be unlicensed and was issued with a court attendance notice (CAN) for Cobar Local Court in October.

Also last week police detected a local man driving without a licence.

The 20 year old was stopped by police last Wednesday at 5.15pm and police checks revealed he was disqualified from driving in June this year until October 2010 for two prior drink driving offences.

The man was issued with a CAN to appear in Cobar Local Court in October.

A 23 year old man will also appear in Cobar Local Court in October after being detected driving without a licence at 3am on Sunday.

The man was stopped in Monaghan Street for a random breath test which returned a negative result, however enquires revealed he was disqualified from driving from April to October 2009.

Cobar Police issued a 32 year old Cobar man with a CAN after he was observed driving in Wattle Drive at 8.55am Sunday.

Senior Constable Sue Huggins said police were aware the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured.

The man was also found never to have held a licence.

He is expected to appear in Cobar Local Court next month.
