Masons donate to St John
St John Ambulance Divisional Superintendent Anita Hodgkinson accepted a donation of $5,000 from Cobar Lodge No 97’s Tony Punzet last Tuesday night.

Members of the Cobar Lodge No 97 were on hand last week to hand over a $5,000 donation to the Cobar branch of St John Ambulance.

Lodge members joined St John volunteers for a meet and greet dinner last Tuesday night at the Services Club with Cobar Lodge No 97’s Tony Punzet presenting the donation to Cobar St John Ambulance Divisional Superintendent Anita Hodgkinson.

Mr Punzet made the donation on behalf of Masonicare, the charitable arm of Freemasonry in NSW and the ACT.

“Masonicare’s mission is to develop and deliver a range of charitable activities designed to improve the lives in our community, enrich an individual experience in freemasonry and to publicly demonstrate Freemasons in Action”, Mr Punzet said.

He said Freemasonry in NSW and ACT is divided into 13 Regions where two $5,000 regional grants are offered per year.

The Cobar Lodge No 97 nominated Cobar’s St John Ambulance because of the valuable service they provide to the community.

Ms Hodgkinson said she was “ecstatic” to receive the Lodge’s generous donation.

The Cobar division of St John Ambulance started in 2006 from a small group of volunteers which has now grown to nine full members.

She said the donation will be used to purchase radios and training equipment so the members could continue to offer a professional first aid service at local social and sporting events.

“Currently our members are fundraising for the purchase of new first aid members kits, of which the division has only two for duties,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

Mr Punzet said that Masonicare were pleased to be able to make this donation along with others they have made to the Cobar community in the past.

“In 2007 Ray Brooke, the Past Grand Master of the NSW and ACT Freemasons, presented a cheque of $5,000 to the Bill Brennan Centre towards the costs of constructing new units,” Mr Punzet said.
