Wednesday September 2, 2009

Golfie president's day bowls
President’s Day Bowls: Cobar Bowling and Golf Club president Jim Goonrey, State Zone 4 councillor Pat Wynne and Dale Barker from Bourke on Sunday at the Golfie.

The President’s Day for 2009 was the feature bowling event at the Golfie over the weekend when 42 bowlers lined up to celebrate this event, after a lapse of three years.

Club President Jim Goonrey welcomed the visitors including teams from Bourke, Hillston, the Cobar Services Club and a team representing Royal NSW with Pat Wynne from the Nyngan Club.

The winning team of the day was Cobar’s Phillip Arnold, Kevin Barrow and Terry Clyde.

The morning trophy winners were the Bourke team of Dale Barker, Henry Morris and Khalanh Orcher.

Rester shots were scored by Phillip Arnold, Sid Fugar and Greg Read, with one each.

The Golden Oldies game on Thursday managed to have two rinks of players.

It was a close finish to pick the winners, with Bill Dickson and Joe Chandler finishing on 13 points from Ken Harper and Trevor Bartlett on 11 points.

Golfie bowlers are advised that Stuart Brown’s Services Club President’s Day will be held later this month. Golfie bowlers may nominate for this event on the bowlers’ board at the Golfie.—Max
