Rugby commentator to emcee Luncheon with The Legend
Wednesday February 3, 2010
Former Cobar Camel, NSW Country representative and captain of the Sydney First Division Northern Suburbs rugby team, Justin Sampson is to be the Master of Ceremonies for the Cobar and District Rugby Club’s ‘Luncheon with The Legend’ John Eales on Thursday, February 18.
Now a sports commentator based in Melbourne, Sampson also coached the Singapore national rugby team for over four years prior to joining ESPN/Star Sports as an expert rugby commentator.
In recent years, Sampson has become a prominent speaker, master of ceremonies and celebrity auctioneer at a variety of functions which include corporate events, fund raisers, conferences and seminars including the Cobar Rugby Club’s 50 years celebrations in 2008.
Sampson, already acquainted with Eales through his rugby media work, spoke to him last week about their trip to Cobar.
He said Eales was looking forward to a day out in Cobar to meet the people and to inspect the Cobar rugby oval and clubhouse about which he had heard so much.
“Cobar will love this bloke.
“John is internationally acclaimed as the greatest Wallaby in the history of the game in Australia; he is a polished and extremely interesting public speaker of the highest order and is an absolute gentleman; and at all times nothing is too much trouble,” Sampson said.
“He will have a yarn to anybody and if you want anything signed, just ask him.”
After talking with the great man himself, local Peter Payne agrees.
“John Eales could be sipping lattes with George Gregan or David Campese in Sydney town, playing a lazy 18 holes at St Ives or even spending a bit of quality time with the wife and kids on February 18 but no, he is giving his time to visit Cobar!” Payne said.
