Flat Track racing makes a spectacular return

Wednesday March 3, 2010

Don Talbot and Cameron Kings were presented with their Clubman trophies by Con Haralampopoulos on Saturday night at the Cobar Auto Club’s Flat Track event.

After a long absence, Flat Track racing in Cobar made a spectacular return at the Cobar Auto Club grounds on Saturday night in front of a huge audience.
And while it was Griffith rider Daniel
Romeo who claimed pole position in three senior classes, the Cobar riders gave him plenty of competition throughout the night.
Romeo claimed the top spot in the All Powers class with local rider Joel Parisi challenging him all the way to finish in second place.
Mark Anderson placed third.
Romeo also finished ahead of Parisi and Anderson in the Senior Open class.
Romeo came up against new opposition in the Senior Unlimited class but he managed to keep ahead of the field to win with seasoned Cobar riders Brett Robotham and Dom Prince in second and third.
Robotham took out the Over 35s Greybeards class with Prince second and Con Haralampopoulos in third place.
New to the art of flat track racing, Don Talbot, with two first places and two seconds from his four rounds of competition, grabbed the Clubman trophy from Cameron Kings.
Kings was slow off the mark with a last place in his first round which ultimately cost him the Clubman title.
His night improved and he finished with a third place and two firsts (ahead of Talbot) in his final two races to place second in the Clubman class.
David Calpo was in third place.
Demi Robinson was a clear winner in the Ladies division while Kyle Mawhinney grabbed first place in the Senior Lites class ahead of brother Joel.
John Arnold finished in third place.
Cameron Brown won the 85cc class; Ben Brown was first in the 65cc A Grade division while James Mitchell and Taylor Bridgeland couldn’t be separated for first place in the 65cc B Grade class.
Nicholas Buckman and Tamira Mitchell put on a good show in their Trial/Special class.
