Two major drug busts by local police

The supply of illegal drugs in the region has taken a massive hit with two separate major drug seizures in Cobar last week.
Police seized around $1 million worth of ecstasy and arrested a man with alleged links to an outlaw motorcycle gang on Saturday; while earlier in the week, a 25 year old Cobar man was arrested as a result of a covert operation which uncovered amphetamines and MDMA (ecstasy).
At 9.40am on Saturday police stopped a Volkswagen campervan on the Barrier Highway near Cobar and conducted a search of the vehicle, locating 4.75kg of pills hidden inside the door panel of the vehicle.
An amount of cash was also seized.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22 year old man from Salamander Bay and his passenger, a 28 year old man from Charlestown, were both arrested and taken to Cobar Police Station for questioning.
The 28 year old man was charged with supply large commercial quantity of prohibited drugs and was refused bail.
He is believed to have links to the Comancheros outlaw motorcycle gang.
The 22 year old was released without charges, however detectives from the Darling River Local Area Command are continuing their investigations.
Last Tuesday a 25 year old Cobar man
was charged after his Marshall Street
residence was searched as part of Operation Cheriton, which was launched by the
Darling River Local Area Command in November last year.
The man was charged with supply prohibited drugs; supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis; and two counts of possess prohibited drugs.
He was conditionally bailed and is expected to appear in Cobar Local Court in August.
