Bowmen put their skills to the test

A field of 19 club members and visitors participated in the archery shoot at the Cobar Bowman Club on Sunday.

Ten members tested their skills with the Fun Day activities while the other nine competed in an official shoot.

Competing in the Fun Day events in the cub division, James Anderson won the ‘V’ shoot, ‘Balloon’ shoot and ‘Noughts and Crosses’ and was followed by Maeve Berthelsen.

In the mixed junior and senior division John Arnold won the ‘Noughts and Crosses’ followed by newcomer Barry Taylor who shot competitively in all the events.

Pete Rogers shot the most accurately in the ‘V’ Shoot and ‘Pop Ups’ with John Arnold in second place.

Roger Anderson beat his son Marshall into second place with quick shooting in the ‘Balloon’ event. Tim Arnold won the Running Pig event with eight accurate shots into the moving target.

Meanwhile some very high scores were shot by some of the members competing on the range.

Jeremy Brown shot the highest score of the day and a personal best in the senior Aided Compound Bow division with 758 points, followed by Marc Raffaele with a good score of 688.

Kristie Manns also shot well in the junior section with her new aided compound bow recording a score of 714.

The best results using a traditional bow were achieved by Darrel Warren with 572 and Shane Dupille on 514 points, with their recurve bows.

Other scores (two rounds of 400 points each) were: seniors: Compound Bow (aided) Jeremy Brown 758; Compound Bow, Ben Brightman 208, Robyn Church 286; and Recurve Bow Brian Church 308.—contributed
