Students head back into the classroom
Wednesday February 4, 2009

Among the many students in Cobar starting their first day of Kindergarten today are four year old Hannah Pitkin and five year old Thomas Bradley, pictured with St John’s School principal Deb Fryer.
After a long summer holiday, Cobar students and teachers will head back into the classrooms this week for the 2009 school year.
A new crop of Kindergarten students are making the journey to big school at St John’s School today.
All three schools are also welcoming new teachers, while there have been some changes at the top of two local schools.
Deb Fryer has taken on the role of school principal at St John’s after sharing the position in previous years with Jenny Nicholson.
Cobar Public School’s new principal Jonathon Harvey also begins this week.
State Minister for Education and Training Verity Firth said more than 61,000 kindergarten students have enrolled to “start their great adventure” into “big school” this year.
“Much is done to help kindergarten students feel confident and comfortable about starting school,” Ms Firth said.
“The majority of kindergarten students attended orientation at their new school last year and many schools introduce students slowly to school, attending for shortened hours for their first weeks until they become used to the school day.”
Both Cobar’s primary schools held orientation programs last year.
