A contingent from Cobar competed in the Hillston Outback Triathlon, a once a year event, held on Sunday in mild conditions.
Cobar’s Dennis Wilson, who won the event last year, this year took second place in the main event with a time of 55 minutes and 30 seconds.
He was outdone this year by Jed Cutter from Leeton during the 500m swim, 18km cycle and 4km run.
Greg Brown finished fourth place overall and won his age category.
These three will be racing at the next Cobar Triathlon on March 15.
Recent continued dry conditions forced the swim stage to be undertaken in the local 25m pool instead of the lake.
The cycle course was flat with a head wind that didn’t appeal much to the competitors.
John Sawell also competed in his third triathlon and finished the course strongly.
Good results were also turned in by the Cobar’s female entrants.
Rachael Kennedy took out fourth place and Steph Wilson finished sixth in the Ladies Sprint Event (held on the same course) (in a very reasonable time of 1hr 20 min).
Only 40 seconds separated them.
Not to be out done, four micro Cobar competitors turned in good times for the Micro Event (100m swim, 2km cycle and 800m run).
Alex Kennedy placed third in his age group with a time of 14min.
He was closely followed by Jamin Sawell 17mins, Sally Kennedy 18 mins and Hugh Wilson 20 mins.
It was a great effort from the young first time competitors from Cobar who forfeited a lot of time in transition, with shoe lace tying one area which may need improvement.—contributed
