Cobar kids learning to make sense of the art at workshops
Wednesday November 4, 2009

Sami and Darcy Gosper were among the nine participants in a ‘Making Sense of Art’ workshop, held by Cobar Arts Council on the weekend.
Local children have been given a hands on opportunity to express their artistic skills with a series of workshops facilitated by Cobar Arts Council.
Local artist Yvonne Beard led a group of nine children in the first ‘Making Sense of Art’ workshop at the Girl Guide Hall on Sunday in the project funded by Accessible Arts.
Cobar Arts Council’s Narelle Retallick said the workshop also included a number of children with disabilities.
“The workshops provide hands-on, sensory and visual activities using waste to art items,” Mrs Retallick said.
During Sunday’s workshop, children painted large cylinders.
The works from each workshop will be combined at the end to create one major work.
“The end result is to create a castle.
“Next week we are painting the walls, so the children are working with a lot of different techniques and textures over the course of the workshops,” Mrs Retallick said.
The workshops will culminate with an exhibition at Cobar Shire Library early next month, coinciding with International Day of People with a Disability.
