Ideal conditions: Swimmers competing in this year’s Five Way Swim hosted by Cobar at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Sunday praised the pool complex with some competitors commenting that the pool “felt fast”. The Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club hosted the annual Five Way Swim at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Sunday with more than 70 swimmers competing.

Weekend visitors included swimmers from the Gosford, Malabar, Nelson Bay and Forbes clubs who joined the Cobar Yabbies for the annual event.

The 50 metres Presidents Trophy event was won by Cliff Deane from Gosford who swam to within 0.63 seconds of his nominated time.

Cobar’s Ian Settree finished in second place (0.74) and Geoffrey Drane from Forbes was third with 0.96.

The 50 metres Scratch Race was taken out by Cobar’s Ben Turton with a very quick time of 28.44 seconds. Murray Frazer (Forbes) was second with 29.58 and Rodger Bruce (Gosford) was in third place with 30.47.

The 30 metres Open Handicap was won by veteran Yabby Bob Clark, who was well ahead of the field, swimming 0.04 seconds off his time to take first place.

Second was Mick Prior (Forbes) with 0.25 and Ian Waters (Cobar) filled third place with a time of 0.33 seconds off his nominated time.

Richard Barwick (Nelson Bay) was well ahead of the competition in the 50 metres Open Handicap race finishing within 0.03 seconds of his nominated time.

Scott Toomey (Cobar) with 0.21 was second and Cliff Deane (Gosford) was relegated to third place with 0.25.

The Cobar A side were easy winners of the 10x50 metres Aquaholics Relay.

The 10 man side turned in an unbeatable time of 0.03 seconds off their nominated time.
Forbes were well back in second place (2.08) with Gosford next in third place on 3.27.

The minor places were filled by Nelson Bay (4th) with 4.52, Cobar B (5th) 7.25 while Malabar broke their time by 11.59 seconds to finish in sixth place.

In the Yabbies local competition swim last Tuesday 16 hardy swimmers braved the 17 degrees water temperature.

Not lingering too long in the water, Sean Pennell was in and out of the 30 metres event within 0.02 seconds of his nominated time.

He finished ahead of Bob Clark (0.08) and Colin ‘Butch’ Eves (0.13).

Ian Settree’s swim of 0.05 seconds off his nominated time won him the 50 metres event ahead of Pennell (0.12).

Peter Lloyd (0.17) was in third place.

Despite the cool temperatures, the 100 metres event was run and won by David Power with a time of 0.28 seconds off his nominated time.

Clark was second with 0.41 and Scott Toomey (0.92) was third.

Lloyd and Power teamed up to win the brace relay event with a time of 0.69.

Scott Toomey and Tyler Roberts  were well back in second place on 1.04.
