Highway blocked by truck crash
Wednesday August 5, 2009
The Kidman Way south of Cobar was closed for most of the day on Monday after thousands of litres of flammable liquid were spilled on the roadway following a traffic collision.
Senior Constable Sue Huggins said a prime mover towing a fuel tanker collided with
a car and caravan 22km south of Cobar at around 11am, causing the tanker to tip onto its side.
The 42 year old truck driver and the 79 year old driver of the car were uninjured in the accident.
Cobar Fire Brigade personnel, a HAZMAT team, Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service and police and ambulance personnel attended the accident to assist with the clean up.
Some traffic was diverted around the accident through Nymagee and Canbelego.
The road was reopened at around 7pm on Monday night after the spill was cleaned up and both vehicles towed from the scene.
