The donation of a new microchip scanner to Nymagee Police will benefit a wide range of locals.
Darling Livestock Health and Pest Authority (LHPA) ranger Robert Neate recently handed over the scanner to Nymagee Police officer Senior Constable Tim Field.
Senior Constable Field said the scanner will allow him to do his job more effectively.
“It saves me a lot of time, because I can identify on the spot whether a dog is registered and who it belongs to,” he said.
“It will help to combat the ongoing problem of trespassing by recreational hunters,” he said.
Mr Neate said hunting dogs are often a problem for landholders in the Nymagee area, and the scanner would be of benefit to locals as well.
“Donating the scanner is providing an extra service to our ratepayers,” Mr Neate said.
The need for a scanner was first identified by the former Cobar Rural Lands Protection Board.
Mr Neate said the donation was approved by the Darling LHPA following RLPB amalgamations earlier this year which saw the Cobar RLPB become part of the new entity.
