Record breaking October weather

Wednesday November 5, 2008

Cobar’s October weather was record breaking according to the Cobar Meteorological Office.

Last week Cobar had seven consecutive days of maximum temperatures exceeding 32 degrees, which is a record for October since the Cobar Weather office began keeping records in 1962.

In addition, there was a record 13 days in October where the maximum temperature exceeded 32 degrees, with the previous record of 10 days recorded in 1988.

The top temperature last week was 37 degrees, recorded both last Monday and Friday.

A welcome cooler weekend saw the temperature under 30 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday, with some rainfall recorded.

A total of 0.8mm was recorded on Saturday morning, while a further 4.4mm was recorded at the Cobar Meteorological Office on Monday morning from rainfall Sunday afternoon and night.

Cobar and most other parts of the west of the state missed out on good falls, mostly recording less than 10mm.

However other parts of the state fared better, with Moree receiving 63.8mm and Walgett 31.4mm of rain.

The forecast for today is for a top of 29 degrees and a cloudy day.

Tomorrow and Friday are expected to be in the low 30s, with 24 degrees expected on Saturday and 27 degrees on Sunday.
