Cobar win on a forfeit from Walgett
Wednesday November 5, 2008
On the representative senior cricket scene, Cobar will go into the second round of the NSW Country Plate after winning on a forfeit from Walgett who were a ‘no show’ on Sunday.
As late as Saturday night they were still coming, but Cobar was finally notified of the forfeit on Sunday morning.
One thing is to be said for the current Cobar representative teams they may not always have a strong side but at least they always travel.
Cobar’s next representative game is the second round Country Plate match.
After four rounds of the local senior cricket competition, Colts is the only unbeaten side after they easily accounted for Golf Club on Saturday.
Golf Club did win something (the toss) and decided to bat first.
They made a good start thanks to Jay Egan and Russell Ewing who put on 25 for the first wicket.
However, once Egan was out for 19 the Golf Club batting followed an all too familiar scenario of wickets falling faster then the Australian Dollar.
Ewing tried to hold the side together as seven wickets fell for 53 runs before he and John Hausia put on 31 important runs.
However, once these two batsmen were out the innings ended quickly and Golf Club was all out for 88.
Ewing made 22 and Hausia top-scored with 24. Colts’ bowlers shared the wickets with Stewart Fraser 3/29, Craig Tanke 3/18 and Steve Ford 3/20 doing damage.
Young David Watson, 1/21, picked up the wicket of Ewing.
Despite losing opener Ford for only one, Colts made it look all too easy as Fraser (53 not out) and Greg Brown (20 not out) reached their target without losing another wicket.
Of the Golf Club bowlers, Andrew Buckman took the only wicket with 1/26.
Chris Higgins, with something to remember the match by, took the only catch.
With no report handed in from the Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 and RSL game, it took a late phone call to find out that RSL won a low-scoring match.
Next week RSL play Golf Club on No.1 Oval and Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 will make the trip to Nymagee. Colts have the bye.—Wisden
