Possible uranium find won’t be mined near Cobar

An exploration company is reporting to have found traces of uranium south of Cobar.
While State Government regulations prevent uranium prospecting in the NSW, Golden Cross Resources (GCR) says its copper, gold, iron and zinc-lead exploration program has also yielded information on a uranium occurrence near Nymagee.
“The occurrence is adjacent to a probable splay off the Rookery Fault, a major regional structure, and airborne radiometric data indicates elevated uranium response over the Nymagee Igneous Complex,” GCR managing director Kim Stanton-Cook said in the company’s recent quarterly activities report.
The company is currently carrying out a number of drilling activities near Canbelego, east of Cobar, and Nymagee, south of Cobar.
The Burra Copper Project, at Canbelego, has yielded “encouraging results” with further drilling to be undertaken, while the Rosevale and Rast tenements near Nymagee are focusing on iron as well as other precious metals.
“There is the obvious widespread development of iron-rich channel deposits throughout Golden Cross’ very large tenement holding,” Mr Stanton Cook said.
The company also has interests in projects near Molong, Orange Blayney and Broken Hill in NSW, and Mt Isa (Queensland) as well as Canada and Panama.
