Juniors contest a very physical, gruelling game

Wednesday May 6, 2009

Those on hand at Apex Oval in Dubbo last Saturday witnessed one of the most physically, gruelling games of rugby league ever in the Dubbo and District Junior Rugby League U/15 age division.

In a brutal forward battle the young Roosters came away with heads held high and a
48-8 victory over Dubbo St Johns.

Vice captain, Khaleb Whitehurst, in a Man of the Match performance, led from the front in an inspirational display of raw power and controlled aggression; it was all too much for the St Johns defence.

Brian Mudugem, Jordan Cranch and Alec Burton (just to name a few), constantly ripped into the St John’s defensive line, and repelled raid after raid with devastating and punishing defence.

This dominant forward play set a solid platform for the backs to weave their own magic, with David Watson, Wade Potter, Jim Delboux, Whitehurst and Macauley Dawson all scoring tries while Potter and Whitehurst shared the conversions.

Delboux’s defence was outstanding with his bone jarring tackles throughout the game resulting in many St John mistakes and turn overs.

The Defence award went to Delboux and the Play of the Day award was shared between Brad Harris and Burton.

In other junior rugby league games played on Saturday, Cobar’s U/11s had a good 34-12 win over Eastridge.

The PCYC U/13 team stamped their authority on their game winning 80-0 over Cobar.—contributed
