Visitors dominate golf major placings

Golf Open winners
Cobar’s men’s golf captain Peter Brien was on hand to present the annual Cobar Men’s Golf Open winner Felly McHughes from Brewarrina with the CD Pretty Trophy at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club on Sunday. .

A field of 89 players, including 45 visitors, turned out on Sunday to contest the annual men’s golf Cobar Open with the visitors dominating the major placings.

Felly McHughes from Brewarrina took out the major prize for the A Grade 27 hole Net event, the CD Pretty Trophy.

The runner-up was David Rose from Nyngan.

Other A Grade winners were M. Sullivan (Brewarrina) 27 hole Net, Bill Douglas 18 hole Scratch, Guy Monahan 18 hole Net, and Jeff Barr 9 hole Scratch.

The Longest Drive went to Garry Wilkin and the nearest the pin prize to Bruce Mitchell.

In B Grade the 27 hole Scratch event was won by Jason Jackson from Wanaaring with the runner-up being Adrian Hawley from Nyngan.

Other B Grade winners included Rob Webster 27 hole Net, Tony Conley 18 hole Scratch, Jacob Ryan 18 hole Net, Phil Gilligan 9 hole Scratch and Warren Rose 9 hole Net event.

The Longest Drive winner was Coran Ah-See and nearest the pin was Bob Baker.

In C Grade, Blake Dunne won the 27 hole Scratch event followed by Brad McDougall.

The 27 hole Net went to Brendan Whaley; the 18 hole Scratch winner was Tim Murray; the 18 hole Net was won by Geoff Rorke and the 9 hole Scratch title went to Mike Parker.

The 9 hole Net was won by Ian Prendergast and Kyle Whaley had the Longest Drive.

Nearest the pin competition was won by Brad McDougall.

The Veteran’s event winner was Peter Hutchinson and the Junior winner was Jeb Bishop.

Western District Golf Association president Bruce Mitchell commented that the course was in an immaculate condition for the Open.

“It is probably the best I have seen it for many years,” Mr Mitchell said at the presentation.—contributed
