Police say they will be enforcing disabled parking rules now that new disabled parking spaces have been marked in Marshall Street, with a $430 fine for motorists who illegally park in the spaces.

Cobar residents who incorrectly park in the newly-marked disabled parking spots in the CBD could be fined $430.
Disabled carparks have been created in Marshall Street outside The John Mitchell Pharmacy and near RYEC, as well as two near the Cobar Primary Health Care Centre in Harcourt Street.
Last week lines were marked in the main street and the disabled parks were painted blue, making them easy to recognise.
Cobar Police say they will be issuing fines to anyone incorrectly parked in the disabled spots.
The offence of ‘stand vehicle in disabled persons parking space without authority’ carries a fine of $430.
Only motorists who hold a Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) card are eligible to park in the disabled parks.
According to the RTA, persons who are unable to walk due to the permanent or temporary loss of use of one or both legs or other permanent medical condition; whose physical condition is detrimentally affected as a result of walking 100 metres; or who requires the use of crutches, a walking frame, callipers, scooter, wheelchair or other similar mobility aid; or a person who is permanently blind is eligible to apply for a MPS card.
All applications for MPS cards must be signed by a doctor.
Strong penalties also apply for the misuse of MPS cards, with fines of more than $500 in place.
