Funds for council to help seniors to stay active

Cobar Shire Council has been successful in obtaining a $5000 NSW Government grant to promote a positive ageing project.
Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd said the project, to be undertaken with assistance from the Cobar Arts Council, will provide a 10 week program of events designed to bring older Cobar residents together and keep them active. The funding will be used to pay for materials and tutors.
Activities available will include painting and sketching workshops, photography workshops that will lead to an exhibition of historic images and stories, ballroom dancing, Mr Fix It workshops, and craft lessons.
“It is hoped that there is something for everyone and that the workshops can be provided free of charge- made possible through the grant and volunteers giving up their time to organise and run the events,” Ms Shepherd said.
The 10 week program is likely to be run next year with further details to be made available in the newspapers.
“All older residents are encouraged to participate and ensure the program is a success.
“The general public will be able to participate as well, by visiting an exhibition that is planned to display works and ideas,” she said.
