Camellions combination wins 2010 Rugby 10’s title
Thursday October 7, 2010

The Cobar Camellions were the winners of the men’s division of the Cobar Rugby 10’s tournament held over the weekend.
Wet weather put a dampener on the Cobar Rugby Club’s Rugby 10’s tournament and Rodeo over the weekend with the Rodeo having to be called off.
The Rugby 10’s competition also suffered a set-back with a number of teams pulling out at the last minute and it went down to a battle between four men’s teams and three women’s.
Players also had to battle the elements with Saturday’s pool games played in very wet and cold conditions at Ailsa Fitzsimmons Memorial Oval.
However the weather did clear on Sunday for the finals and spectators were treated to some impressive rugby matches.
The Cobar Camellians, made up of a combination of Cobar rugby union and rugby league players (and one AFL player), took out the this year’s Rugby 10’s title after they beat Brisbane Northern Rebels 15-10 in Sunday’s grand final.
After having finished at the top of the pool, the Rebels looked to be the favourites going into the final, having got the better of the Camellians in their two previous encounters, including a 22-10 win in the semi final earlier that day.
However the Camellians had left their best rugby until the end (when it mattered) and their three tries to the Rebels’ two in the grand final secured them the win and the 2010 title.
The women’s division ended in a draw between the Cobar Bactrains and Moree.
After an extra 10 minutes of play in the grand final, the score was still locked up at 5-all and, by mutual agreement, the teams shared the prize money and trophy.
