Busy week for Golfie’s lawn bowlers both home and away

Wednesday February 8, 2012

New Blues coaches
Geoff Dunne (one of the winners along with Marion Williams), Dick Roberts and Brad Dunne (runner-up with partner Pat Delaney) preparing to bowl an end at the Dollars Run on Sunday morning at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club.

Weather was the winner at the Golfie’s Golden Oldies event last Thursday, when light rain fell for most of the morning and caused a wash out cancellation.

The regular Friday’s Twilight Jackpot night was a great success again last week with 20 players on the green and all made welcome the beginners, juniors and mixed teams.

Each team is matched with a regular bowler so anyone can win and have fun doing it.
The winners on the night were Dick Roberts and Bill Fugar scoring +11 points.

The runner-up was the team of Neville Fisher, Matt Dillon and Di McLeod on +5 points.
The Jackpot prize was not won and is worth $270 this Friday night.

A feature of last weekend was the bowls trip to Hillston for the Summer Pairs competition with 15 travelling in the Golfie contingent.
By all reports a star of the show was Kevin Barrow who, along with his Hillston partner, were the overall winners.

Jim Goonrey and his Hillston partner earned the runners-up prize while a few of the Cobar local golfers acquitted themselves on the Hillston bowling greens playing as skippers in a game or two.
The rest of the Cobar bowlers enjoyed the hospitality of the Hillston teams.

Back on the home front, there were 12 starters for the Sunday Dollars Run game and the winners were Geoff Dunne and Marion Williams on +10 from runners-up Brad Dunne and Pat Delaney on +9.—Max
