Geoff Potter was the very lucky winner of the Community Club$ Mega Jackpot Draw on Saturday night and is pictured with Cobar Bowling & Golf Club secretary manager Neil Urquhart, who is thrilled the first draw was won in Cobar.
One Cobar resident is not only the envy of the rest of the town but also the envy of residents in nine other towns across the central west who took part in the Community Club$ Mega Jackpot Draw.
Local Geoff Potter was the inaugural winner of the Community Club$ Mega Jackpot Draw on Saturday night at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club and will collect a cool $26,000 just for being in the right place at the right time.
Conducted by the Gilgandra Services Club, the Community Club$ Mega Jackpot Draw involves clubs in 10 towns including the Golfie, the Gunnedah Golf Club, Narromine United Services Memorial Club, Narrabri RSL Memorial and Citizens Club, Oberon RSL, Forbes Services Memorial Club, Gilgandra Services Club, Wellington Soldiers Club, Young Services Club and the Coonabarabran Bowling Club.
Initially each club weighed in with $1,000 for the $10,000 start up prize and for the past 16 weeks they have each added $100 per week per club so when Geoff was the first to win the jackpot on Saturday it had reached $26,000.
For the past 17 weeks on Saturday night all the clubs have been video linked with the draw taking place at a different club each week, chosen by a random draw.
This week the Golfie’s members had their second chance at the prize when the Golfie’s number came up for the draw.
Members don’t need to buy tickets, they just needed to be a financial member and be present at the draw.
(Members are given four minutes to produce their membership card to claim the prize.)
The Jackpot will start again next Saturday with the prize back to $10,000
