When you're on a good thing ...

Touch competition
The Cobar Miners Race Club currently has a winning formula in the make up of their club committee and so at Sunday’s annual general meeting they voted not to change it with all the executive and general committee returned to their positions for 2012. Pictured above are committee members Alan Sharpe, Christie Wheeler, Tess Lloyd, Kevin Wheeler, Paddy Francisco, Robert Cownie, Vince Sikora, Lilliane Brady, Maree Ellicott and Michael Fohmsbee at the racetrack.

The saying goes: “When you are on to a good thing, stick to it” and that was exactly the case at the Cobar Miners Race Club annual general meeting on Sunday with the committee unchanged for 2012.

The meeting was well attended by club members who unanimously voted to return Robert Cownie to the president’s role along with Alan Sharpe and Vince Sikora as vice presidents.
Tess Lloyd was again put forward uncontested for the secretary and treasurer’s duties which she accepted.

A general committee was also elected with many club members returning to serve their fourth term with the re-invigorated committee.

At Sunday’s meeting Mr Cownie was pleased to be able to report on another good year for the club.

“Our 2011 race day went off without a hitch with a record crowd in attendance,” he reported.

He said also on the club’s list of achievements last year was being named a finalist at the 2011 Country Provincial Racing Awards for Outstanding Achievement.

Mr Cownie listed the numerous ground improvements and security upgrades made by members over the season and praised the small, but dedicated, group for all their continued hard work.

“There’s nothing stopping up going forward to 2012,” he concluded.

The ‘new’ committee is now working towards the 2012 race day to be held in May.
