Drink Drivers Saturate Court System

Wednesday April 8, 2010

Four local drivers, two who exceeded the blood alcohol limit by more than four times, had their licences disqualified in Cobar Local Court last week.
Two of the drivers were involved in accidents, with three of the incidents occurring on public holidays.
Magistrate Ron Maiden handed out more than $2,800 in fines.
A 25 year old Cobar man was ordered off the road for three years after he was involved in an accident in Sydney on New Year’s Day.
The P1 licence holder was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.218, more than four times the legal limit.
The man was fined $1,000 and placed on a good behaviour bond for three years.
A 26 year old Cobar man who crashed into a number of parked cars and a fence while driving at more than five times the legal blood alcohol limit in Broken Hill on Christmas Day last year also appeared in court last week.
He was convicted of driving with a high range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) and fined $750, disqualified from driving for two years and placed on a bond for two years.
An 18 year old Cobar man was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for one year after being convicted of driving with a high range PCA in court last week.
He had been caught driving in Cobar on Australia Day with a blood alcohol limit of 0.16, and produced a fake licence when pulled over by police.
A 42 year old Nymagee man was also disqualified from driving for nine months and fined $500 in court last week after being convicted of driving with a mid range PCA.
He was observed by police driving in Cobar and refused a breath test three times before he was arrested and found to be driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.09.
A 29 year old man and a 17 year old female were both placed on good behaviour bonds for two years when their drink driving charges were conditionally dismissed last week.
