Cobar has proved to again be a popular destination for charity rally participants with the Victorian Variety Club’s Brat’s Bash stopping overnight in town last week.
Around 25 weird, wacky and sometimes spectacular vehicles began rolling into town last Tuesday afternoon after spending the day in Louth.
The Brat’s Bash, which raises funds for special needs children, is unique in that families are encouraged to bring their children along for the ride.
“Some participants have even brought their grand kids along to show them what it is like,” event participant Paul Herbert told The Cobar Weekly.
The bash started in Melbourne on March 25 and participants stopped in Cootamundra, Parkes, Dubbo, Bourke, Cobar, Hay and Echuca along the way.
Mr Herbert said while in Louth, bash participants had a go at “fishing” for aluminium fish and enjoyed a luncheon.
In Cobar the bash participants took a tour of the Cobar Meteorological Office and observed the weather balloon release.
The bash is in its fifth year and organisers say it grows every year.
Cobar is regularly an overnight stopover for similar bash events, and this year the Variety 4WD Trek, Cliffhanger Off-Road Rally and Variety NSW Bash will all spend nights in Cobar.
