Cobar musician gets original song played on regional radio
Wednesday April 8, 2009

Local musician Jade Martin is busy recording more songs after his debut single ‘Thru these Eyes’ was played on ZooFM radio recently.
Cobar residents have been appreciating his musical talents for years, but now local musician Jade Martin is exposing his work to a wider audience after having his first single played on ZooFM radio.
Jade’s first single ‘Thru These Eyes’ has since been played almost every day on the radio station’s ‘Aussie Hour’ program.
ZooFM morning announcer Ken Smith decided to play the song the day after it “landed on his desk” when it was initially well received by all staff at the radio station.
Although he has been playing in local pubs and clubs for years, Jade is hoping the radio exposure will lead to more live gigs across the region, especially in Dubbo.
“I’m just trying to get out there now,” he said.
Currently working at Peak Gold Mines on a four on-four off roster, Jade uses his spare time to record songs with the hope of eventually finishing a full length album.
Virtually all the recording is done in a spare bedroom at his home with the help of fellow local musician Jade Buckman.
“I play all the instruments.
“We record the drums first, then the bass guitar, electric and acoustic guitars and finish with the vocals,” Jade said.
He said Jade [Buckman] assists with mastering and putting together the finished product using a computer.
As with many aspiring musicians, success has taken time with Jade being involved in music nearly all his life.
‘Thru These Eyes’ was written in 2001 when he was 17, when Jade played with a local band called ‘Loader’; and recording of the single began in 2007.
Jade said his parents are both talented musicians, and he first learned to play guitar when he was just three years old, going on to learn drums and adding singing to his repertoire in recent years.
“I grew up with influences like John Farnham and Eddie Van Halen,” Jade said.
“In the early days, we played mainly heavy metal, but we have mellowed since.”
Jade debuted ‘Thru These Eyes’ live at the GW Hotel on Friday night, and also took part in a jam session with local young musicians as part of Youth Week celebrations on Saturday.
