New young faces in the Blues’ line-up for 2009 season
Wednesday April 8, 2009

The Cobar Blues line-up for 2009 includes a number of new and young players along with a number of experienced players.
The Cobar Blues AFL side were given a big ask for their first game of the 2009 Northern Riverina Football League competition on Saturday when they met last year’s premiers Lake Cargelligo.
Lake Cargelligo meant business from the outset and had posted their first goal within one minute of play and, while the Cobar side did a good job of containing their opposition, the Lake Tigers ran out convincing 15-10-100 winners over Cobar 6-15-51.
While Cobar had almost as many opportunities at goal, Lake Cargelligo’s accuracy was more superior and they stormed ahead in the second quarter to lead 8-5-53 to 1-5-11.
At times poor ball skills let Cobar down however the team never let up its intensity throughout the match.
By the third quarter Cobar was playing smarter footy and, in the fourth quarter, things really started to fall into place with good use of the ball which resulted in five goals.
Captain and co-coach Murray Robotham led the way kicking two goals for the Blues.
Cobar’s other goals came from Clay Neale, Rob Mitchell, Terry Pitkin and Luke Sheehan.
Cobar was also well served by Dan Howard, Wade McLachlan, Travis Dunlevy, Shane Munro, Mitchell and Neale.
Promising new young player, Rohan Lloyd also came in for special mention by Blues Club president Dan Brown as having an excellent first game.
“We need to work on the skills and team play,” Howard said after the game.
“We had good numbers for the start of the season, and the club is looking forward to a great season in 2009.”
There is a general bye this weekend for Easter and then next weekend Cobar is once again home to another tough side, Ungarie.
