Playing in the Championship Triples bowls on Saturday afternoon at the Golfie were Jim Goonrey, John Goonrey, Neil Urquhart, Rod Leahy, Doug Hudson and Neville Fisher.
It was a great weekend of bowls at the Golfie with the Club Championships games played along with the visit of a team from Hillston for a social game on Sunday.
Two games of Championship triples were played on Saturday afternoon with Ben Jentjens, Kevin Kershaw and Chris Cooney too strong for Jack Tulloh, Peter Franks and Daniel Holt winning 28-8.
In the second game, Rod Leahy, Doug Hudson and Neville Fisher held off a late rush by Neil Urquhart, John Goonrey and Jim Goonrey to win 21-19, after Neville’s team had raced away to a 15-7 margin on the first 11 ends.
On Sunday the Golfie hosted Hillston’s 10 players and tendered them a very warm welcome to the social morning’s play.
A field of 18 players was on the green for the 16 ends game, won by Sid Fugar and Rod Leahy on +16.
The runner-up was Keith Horneman on +12 points.
Last Thursday’s Golden Oldies game had a field of 12 players, with Ian O’Hearn and Rod Leahy the winners on 14 points, from runners-up John Grogan and Don Datson, on nine points after a count back.
The monthly consistency trophy was shared by Rod Leahy and Alan Strange with a big score of 44 points each.—Max
