Miner’s ghost to come alive during local festival
Thursday October 8, 2009
The history of the Miner’s Ghost will come to life at Cobar’s main festival event of the year later this month.
One of the regular acts on the Festival of the Miner’s Ghost program, Vince Wren, has played the town crier at previous festivals and this year has developed an act based on Cobar’s heritage.
“They will perform an act at the Kubby House Markets in the Drummond Park, which will be based around the miner’s ghost and our local heritage,” Cobar tourism manager John Martin said.
The preliminary program for the festival was officially released last week, with a meeting last Wednesday to discuss the details of the festival.
While a number of popular events are being held again this year, the main focus will be the official opening of the new lights at Ward Oval.
A fireworks display, traditionally held over the Great Cobar open cut, will be held at Ward Oval as well as an exhibition Twenty20 cricket match.
Other events on the calendar include Cobar Arts Council’s annual exhibition, the Monster Ball, Cobar Girl Guides Family Kite Flying Day and much more.
