Absolutely No Fear in soccer semi

Thursday October 8, 2009

Disbelief is the only way to describe No Fear Here’s stunning 6–5 victory over Peak/CSA in last week’s indoor soccer semi final match.

No Fear Here lived up to their name and eliminated their more highly fancied opponents.

Becks had to eat his words after last week predicting that No Fear Here would not make it past the first week of the finals.

The team had even organised end of season drinks for after the game. They are now on hold.

The first half of last week’s match was a very tight affair and it wasn’t until the 21st minute that the first goal was scored.

It came from Nagaiyakrishna Naidu and opened Peak/CSA’s account.

The second half was a more open game with a flurry of goals being scored as both teams went blow for blow.

Sean Cox levelled the scores for No Fear Here six minutes into the second half.

Naidu answered back with his second goal for the match to put Peak/CSA ahead again.

No Fear Here then took the lead thanks to a goal from Jenifer Watson (goals scored by female players are worth two points).

They then extended their lead to two when Cox found the back of the net again.

Peak/CSA hit back when Naidu scored his third and Sue Jones landed a magnificent header within a matter of minutes.

The turning point came seven minutes from fulltime when No Fear Here’s Nicole Buckman scored from point blank range.

This put No Fear Here into the lead and they hung on to secure the biggest upset of the year.

In the other game of the night, Sonics proved too strong for Redbacks. Sonics led early when Alex Langley scored, however her goal was cancelled out when Hannah Young scored for Redbacks.

Sonics went into the lead again just before halftime thanks to a goal from Wade Potter.

Two quick goals early in the second half from Rhys Power and Brendon Everett set up a match winning lead for Sonics.

Jimmy Martin pulled one back for the Redbacks however it wasn’t enough and Sonics went on to win 5–3.

When indoor soccer resumes in two weeks, Sonics will face Floorboards in the major semi final with the winner advancing to the grand final. Redbacks will take on No Fear Here in the minor semi.—Becks
