Years of fundraising efforts have come to fruition with new units for local senior citizens completed.
The four new units form part of the WS Brennan Centre complex, located in Linsley Street.
Fundraising efforts have been largely led by a small committee of local volunteers, with the recent Dancing Under the Stars event providing a major cash injection for the cause.
In total the fundraising committee, led by Zena Standring, Sandra Russell, Chris Brown along with John de Bruin raised more than $30,000 for the construction of the new units through the collection of aluminium cans, sales of manure for gardens and raffles.
Mrs Standring said the “can and poo” fundraising will continue to help with the maintenance costs of the new units.
The Brennan Centre was an initiative of the Cobar Senior Citizen’s Amenities Committee in the 1960s, with the construction of an activities centre.
It was followed shortly after by the construction of three low maintenance units for local seniors, with the latest units the fourth, most likely final, phase of expansion for the centre.
