Unlikely group of local men ready to take to the stage

Wednesday June 9, 2010

Kokoda Trek

The men of Moulin will take to the stage this weekend in the colourful local stage
production of Moulin Rouge.

What do a concreter, a backhoe driver, a mechanic, a school teacher, an ex-footballer, a mill worker, an environmental officer, a geologist, a truck driver, an IT expert and a handyman have in common?
They are all men ... and all are members of the cast of the local stage production of Moulin Rouge which opens this Friday night at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club.
It’s pretty much guaranteed that the ladies of the Moulin Rouge cast will steal the show with their fantastic singing abilities, their brilliant dance routines and sexy costumes, however it’s the Men of Moulin who are the show’s real surprises.
Stuart Wharton is enigmatic as the Moulin Rouge club owner Harold Zidler; Chris Marshall is perfect in the role of the wealthy Duke, the patron of the club; Chris Freeman makes his career debut as Christian the young English poet and writer; Michael Bovey has a hard time staying awake in his role as the Unconscious Argentinean and the newly wed Chris Higgins returns fresh from his honeymoon to play the role of Toulouse-Lautrec, an enthusiastic show promoter who believes in Freedom, Truth, Beauty and Love.
Also look out for Brad Lennon, Allan Clarke, Shane Mackay, Sean Walsh, Dave Power, Glenn Martin and Paul Swainston, just to name a few, among the rest of the cast and chorus.
