The combination of age & experience and youth & skill paid off for the Flashman’s women’s basketball team on Monday night giving them a 29-21 grand final win over their young Brilliams Blazers opposition.
Flashman’s controlled the match from the outset putting the first shot away almost immediately and then following it up with another.
Brilliams Blazers made a hesitant start to the game, which was in direct contrast to their confident win last week over Golfie Gals and they always had to play a catch up game.
Player of the Grand Final, Corinne Syme, led Flashman’s in the rebounding department and, along with more accurate shooting by the whole team, it was their dedication to rebounding that won Flashman’s the match.
Flashman’s had a 17-8 lead at half time.
Some brilliant play by Brilliams Blazers in the third quarter reigned in the difference to three points, however controlled play by Flashman’s enabled them to confidently finish the match eight points ahead.
Men’s basketball: In the men’s basketball competition played on Monday night at the youth centre Howie’s Merkins progressed to the grand final after beating CMPL Fallen 38-34.
Empire All Sorts won 68-53 over Joblink Sonics to eliminate them from the competition.
CMPL Fallen and Empire All Sorts will meet in the preliminary final in a fortnight.
