Funds help CEF in the business of helping business

Wednesday September 9, 2009

Cobar Enterprise Facilitation (CEF) has received a major funding boost after receiving a federal government grant.

CEF last week received notification of a successful application under the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Jobs Fund pool.

DEEWR employment and participation policy cluster deputy secretary Graham Carters said CEF will receive just over $68,000 under the ‘Get Communities Working’ component of the funding pool.

CEF chairman John Carswell said the grant will help the group focus on its core purpose.

“It will go towards the employment of Mark Workman as enterprise facilitator to allow him to continue to diversify the job opportunities available in Cobar by facilitating new and expanding businesses,” Mr Carswell said.

“The money will also allow for some training for Mark with the Sirolli method,” he said.

“It takes the pressure off the committee so we can focus more on helping Mark to help local people with free, confidential business coaching.

“Without this money, we would have had to do a lot more fundraising ourselves,” Mr Carswell said.

CEF is one of three recipients in the Calare electorate to receive a first round Jobs Fund Grant, which are aimed at creating or retaining local jobs and training opportunities.

Mr Carswell said it is difficult to quantify how many jobs will be created by the funding.

“We are not 100 per cent sure on the figures, because that depends on the people in Cobar and their ideas,” he said.
