Wednesday September 9, 2009
Local horse riders Kaila Wharton and Emily Claxton competed at the Narromine Show on Saturday.
They then teamed up with another Cobar rider, Samantha Hyde, in Nyngan on Sunday where the three competed in a One Day Event.
Emily competed in multiple ring events at Narromine on Saturday with her horse Roxy.
In her rider’s class Hack event she placed second and achieved third place in the Pleasure Hack class.
She jumped a very good showjumping round in the 65cm class and also took part in four sporting events against some tough competition coming home with a fourth place in bending and flagging.
Kaila and her horse Bob competed in three showjumping competitions.
A double clear round earned her first place in the 65cm class and a clear round in the 90cm got her into a jump off however Kaila didn’t go on to place.
A very good round in her D Grade (105-110cm) competition made it an enjoyable day.
At Nyngan’s One Day Event on Sunday, Emily and Samantha competed in E Grade event while Kaila rode in the C Grade class.
Samantha and her horse Ravi performed well in their dressage test, achieving a personal best result.
She finished well ahead of the rest of the field and then turned in a clear round in the showjumping section.
Samantha then incurred some penalties in her cross country section but her previous dressage results had held her in good stead and she finished first in her class.
Emily completed a good dressage test to keep her in the running at fifth place.
She also returned a clear round in her showjumping and then rode a personal best in the cross country section which moved her ranking up to fourth, however she just missed out on receiving a ribbon.
Kaila started the day well riding a nice dressage test that put her in the lead in her class.
She followed it up with an excellent showjumping round, and then went on to finish with a just as good cross country ride (where she scored no penalties) to give her a win in her class.—contributed
