CHRISTMAS CASH

Wednesday December 9, 2009

Beating the HeatJoker card
Christmas came early in Cobar last week with two of the town’s major cash games won by locals. Allanah Burton, pictured with Cobar Rugby Club’s Allan ‘Afghan’ Fazulla (left) and Leonie Simmons, pictured with Cobar Bowling and Golf Club secretary/manager Neil Urquhart, were both winners taking home big cash prizes. Allanah picked the Joker in the Cobar Rugby Club’s Pick-a-Card competition at the New Occidental Hotel last Thursday night taking home $19,000. With the competition now moving to Cobar Memorial Services Club, the money at the New Occidental had to go off last week and 18 lucky locals got the chance to pick a card. Allanah uncovered the joker with just four cards remaining. On Saturday night at Cobar Bowling and Golf Club Leonie took home $20,000 when she turned over the right card in the Jerry the Joker competition. The Jerry the Joker competition will now start from $5,000 next week, while the Rugby Club Pick-a-Card competition will also start from $5,000 at its new home at Cobar Memorial Services Club.
