Cowboys into Country Plate finals series
Wednesday December 9, 2009
The Cobar Bowling and Golf Club Cowboys senior representative cricket team’s win over Forbes in the quarter finals of the state wide Country Plate knockout competition has earned them a finals spot.
The match was played at the neutral venue of Nyngan on Sunday with Cobar captain Phil Harley losing the toss and Forbes batting first.
The Cobar bowling attack had excellent line and length and was supported by their fellow players in the field.
A number of good catches were taken as well as some great ground fielding.
Forbes lost wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed for a total of 140 with their captain Daniel Bayley top scoring with 37.
All of Cobar’s bowling attack contributed with Stewart Fraser taking 3/24, Damien Harbison 2/10, David Watson 2/22, Doug North 1/21, Harley 1/28 and Wade Potter 1/32.
Cobar’s batting line up was forced to start their innings approximately 35 minutes before the scheduled lunch break.
Opening batsmen Craig Dillon and Jake Harbison saw out this tough, short period and Cobar went to lunch without losing a wicket and the score on 45.
After the break both batsmen continued their excellent partnership to score the remaining runs for an emphatic victory with Cobar finishing the match at 0/146.
Dillon remained not out on 78 and Harbison (following up his excellent century in local cricket the previous day) remained not out on 46.
The Cobar Cowboys will now make the trip to Temora on Boxing Day for the finals series of the Country Plate competition and will play Moree, Goulburn and Murray Valley.
This will be the fifth successive season that Cobar has played in the Country Plate finals carnival.—contributed
