Good fields for summer golf comp

The golf summer competition got off to a good start with fields of 15 and 25 golfers teeing off on Saturday and Sunday.

The 18 hole competition on Saturday was won by Jade Townsend (with 44 points) followed by Peter Brien (41) and Chris Higgins (43 Provisional).

Nearest the pins were recorded by Higgins, Townsend, Youlanda Taylor, Robynne Morton and Matt Russell.

The nine hole competition resulted in a win for Jade Townsend (33½) followed by Peter Brien (34) and Peter Lloyd (34½).

Sunday’s 18 hole winner was Sue-Ellen Dunne (43) chased by Leigh Stevens (42) and Bill Bartlett (39).

Nearest the pins were hit by Heather Forster, Janine Ryan, Garry Hay and Sue-Ellen Dunne (2).

Brenda Fugar, with a score of 28½, won the Nine Hole competition and, to round off a great day, Sue-Ellen Dunne came in second (29) followed by Stevens (31½).

Wednesday’s game enticed 17 starters, with the 18 hole event won by Brad Gilligan (42) followed by Robert Fing (35) and Patrick Bourke (35).

The winner of the Chook Run was Daryn Lord (28½) followed by Gilligan (31) and Peter Lloyd (31½).

With the finish of the 2009 season the golf committee acknowledged the various people and businesses who have sponsored events throughout 2009.

These sponsorships have helped to keep golf in Cobar in a healthy state.—contributed
