Brewarrina back from ‘bowls limbo’
Wednesday March 10, 2010
The 2010 pennant bowls season began on Sunday with the Brewarrina No7 side welcomed back to the competition after many years in ‘bowls limbo’.
And come back they did with a great win over the Cobar Golfie side 5-1, after a close result 56-53 on overall points.
Cobar’s winning team was Max Humphries, Robert Howlett, Cec Howlett and Terry Clyde defeating Brewarrina’s J Grant, D Conroy, P Orcher and A Ronayne 22-17.
Next in line was Trevor Bartlett, Sid Fugar, Tom Fox and Garry Middleton who were defeated by Brewarrina’s T Hayden, R Bennett, A Seaton and G Orcher 20-18.
Ben Jentjens, Jack Tulloh, Don Roberts and Peter Franks lost their game to Brewarrina’s
D Shillingworth, J McHughes, R Bennett and S Harding 19-13 .
This Sunday Golfie meets the Services Club side at the Golfie. Team lists are posted on the bowlers board at the club.
Rain again washed out the Golden Oldies event on Thursday but we don’t hear any complaints about the rain around here.
Of great interest is the Singles Championship between Don Roberts and Ben Jentjens played recently when, after playing 35 ends, Jentjens was the winner 31-29. It was quite a battle for the first round of competition.—Max
