Water trucked to Nymagee after the dam runs dry
Wednesday December 10, 2008
Outdoor watering has been completely banned in Nymagee after the town’s water supply last week reached critical levels.
Cobar Shire Council has this week amended Nymagee’s water restrictions and has begun trucking water to the village.
Council’s acting general manager Wally Black said water carted to the town is for household use only.
“All hoses are banned, including sprinklers, watering systems and hand held hoses,” he said.
He said Nymagee has had to have water trucked out a number of times over the past few years.
“We have tried to sink bores out there but its too salty,” Mr Black said.
He said other villages in the shire also need to be vigilant with their water supply.
“Euabalong and Euabalong West are restricted to watering between 6pm and 10pm daily.
“Their water comes from the river, and they have had a reduced allocation,” Mr Black said.
“Canbelego gets its water from the pipeline that supplies Cobar, so they are on the same restrictions as us.
“But we do need rain badly,” Mr Black said.
