Joel’s Jets and Baden’s Bears battle it out at 16s cricket

Joel’s Jets U/16 cricket team at Ward Oval No 3 last Tuesday.

In the U/16 cricket competition played last Tuesday at Ward Oval No 3 Joel Mawhinney led his team Joel’s Jets to a win over the Baden Smith-captained Baden’s Bears.

Mawhinney won the toss and elected to bat and he opened with David Watson.

Watson was dismissed in the fourth over off the bowling of Slade Neale for five which saw Mathew Russell come to the crease.

Russell managed to stay in until the ninth over until he also departed for six runs.

Jesse Brennan was out the next over for a duck.

Dylan Prince then stepped up to the crease to make nine runs before departing.

Colby Goodeve was next in, and along with Mawhinney, who batted the whole 30 overs for a well compiled 51 not out, finished off the innings making 16 not out.

The total score for Joel’s Jets was 115.

Best bowlers for Baden’s Bears, were Wade Potter with 1/9, Jesse Brennan 1/11, Slade Neale 1/12 and Bradley Harris 1/16.

This score proved to be too high for the Bears who were only able to manage 85 runs in return.

Wade Potter racked up 27 runs before being bowled by Dylan Gibson.

Clinton Everett (20) was bowled by Colby Goodeve and Slade Neale made 12 before Saxon Luck claimed his wicket.

Best bowlers for the Joel’s Jets team were Mathew Russell with 2/3, Dylan Gibson 2/20, Saxon Luck 1/13 and Colby Goodeve 1/17.

Sportsmanship points went to Dylan Prince 3, Dylan Gibson 2 and Joel Mawhinney 1.—contributed
