Wednesday February 11, 2009

First day of school at St John's
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries hosted a visit by US Consular General Judith Fergin in Cobar yesterday.

The United States Consular General Judith Fergin was in Cobar yesterday as part of her western area tour and met with State Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries.

Mrs Fergin expressed an interest to visit Mr Humphries at his Cobar office to discuss a range of issues, some of which included the economic situation, how climate change has affected western NSW and the Emissions Trading Scheme.

“Part of my job as Consular General is to keep my finger on the pulse of what’s going on in NSW and Queensland and report back to Washington,” Mrs Fergin said.

While in Cobar Mrs Fergin also met with the mayor, councillors, and business and other leaders in the community.

A career member of the US Foreign Service, Mrs Fergin has the rank of Minister Counselor and took up her posting as US Consul General in Sydney in July 2007.

She served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Singapore (2004-07), has participated in a diplomatic exchange program at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in Canberra (2002-03) and served as the Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Canberra (2003-04). Mrs Fergin has also served in Jakarta, Moscow, Monrovia, Pretoria, Munich, and Washington, DC.

Her tour of the west continued with visits to Broken Hill, Wentworth and Griffith.
