Pool upgrade worth the money spent

Wednesday February 11, 2009

LBV residents at the pool
Lilliane Brady Village residents are regulars at the pool each Wednesday.

If the attendance figures each day at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool are anything to judge by, then Cobar Shire Council’s decision to refurbish the pool facility seems to be money well spent.

Since the pool’s reopening two months ago, pool manager Peter Shanahan reports 34,000 people have been through the gate with approximately 1,000 using the pool on Australia Day.

And it’s not just children who are using the pool with 60 lap swimmers using the pool from 6am to 8am each morning before heading off to work.

Also a large group of adults and seniors make use of the pool mid-morning and aquaerobics classes have been full to capacity with 70 attending last Tuesday night’s class.

The Cobar Swimming Club has received 110 junior registrations this season, and the senior men’s swimming club is also attracting more swimmers this season with 29 at last week’s competition swim.

And while the recent very hot weather may have in part contributed to record attendance numbers, most users say they go to the pool because it is an “excellent facility” that is “very well run”.
